The big 3 EDA vendors all have PV offerings: Mentor with its Calibre nmDRC is the market leader; Cadence offers Assura/PVS; and Synopsys’ solution is named IC Validator. All three of these solutions are targeted to perform PV on very large designs including those at leading edge process geometries below 10nm. Consequently, these tools are high-value, but also quite expensive. While the PV technology is driven by the needs of the leading edge (process geometries < 10nm and die sizes > 700mm2) the broader market (designs in processes > 28nm) is quite willing to adopt more cost effective solutions if they can provide both accuracy and performance.

New generation of tractor navigation systems
eFarmer B.V. is a precision agriculture startup, that is bringing state of the art technologies to small and medium farmers around the globe.
The company has developed FieldBee - smart farm assistant for perfect fieldwork execution. Company's products assist farmers with efficient mechanized field operations and help to grow food in a more productive and sustainable way without unnecessary stress.
eFarmer B.V. was created in 2014 as a spin-off from Kvazar-Micro, one of the largest IT systems integration companies in Eastern Europe. The company is the alumni of the European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre Noordwijk, the Netherlands.
The company has a strong team of talented engineers and entrepreneurs with more than 10 years experience in IT in the agricultural sector and has two offices in Netherlands and Ukraine.
FieldBee app is one of the first apps for farmers, it was downloaded in 140 countries by 160 000 people. FieldBee was created together with farmers during the successful crowdfunding campaign.
Farmers from all over the world often tell us how stressed they are, especially during seeding and harvesting. That is actually why we have decided to create an affordable tractor navigation system FieldBee that every farmer in the world can benefit from.
We have decided to ask farmers from our community that live in 140 countries how do they cope with stress:
Are you still wondering whether the FieldBee tractor navigation system is for you?
It’s time to shed some light on how farmers with very different backgrounds can benefit from the product.
In our FieldBee in the fields series, we are sharing the stories of our proud users in their own words in order to show how the system works in practice.
It is really interesting to see farmers all around the world working with FieldBee The system assists farmers in their field operations in several different countries and on very different types of farms.
The eFarmer team is over a very eventful week. We installed an autosteer on a 30 year old tractor, tested the new version of our FieldBee tractor navigation system and even find time for some teambuilding – all these on a farm in the northwestern part of Ukraine.
What is the best part of creating new solutions for farmers?
The chance to visit farms and meet our customers all around the world.
Are you interested in how FieldBee works in the field? Are you wondering how it could help you?
You’re not alone…
We receive many questions about how exactly our FieldBee tractor navigation system helps farmers with their field operations.
Since we can’t put everyone into touch with our existing FieldBee users, we decided to ask them about their experiences and share them with you. In our new series of blog posts, FieldBee in the field, we will introduce our proud FieldBee users and their stories in their own words.
Since we started our big project to create the autosteer system that every farmer dreams about, you have shared many valuable information and great ideas with us. We are getting closer and closer to understand how you imagine your dream autosteer and what is currently missing from the market.
From our first survey, we learnt that you need an affordable, stable and easy-to-use system with high accuracy and easy installation.
In our last blog article we covered the basic characteristics of your ideal steering system, but that was just the beginning.
In December 2015 we had the idea to create an affordable, easy-to-use tractor navigation system for farmers. It was a great journey. Farmers from all over the world supported our crowdfunding campaign, and helped us to decide on the most important characteristics and even on the design of this GPS and RTK system.
The idea of the product was ready, but one thing was missing – the name. And I remember how we chose it. We started with around 100 different names, and then narrowed this list down to 20. We had intense discussions within a team. But when the FieldBee name appeared, it was a defining moment. It was unanimously accepted in a second. For us, bee was clearly associated with the hardworking farmer who is bringing so much good to people. Amazing, God’s creatures – both bees and farmers!
eFarmer recently undertook the challenge to create the automatic steering system that every farmer dreams about. Our goal is to develop a solution that will allow you to upgrade your tractor to automatic steering with minimum costs and high quality and last week we asked you to help us achieve that.
It was great to see how farmers from all around the world came together to share their ideas about their dream automatic steering system. It gave us essential insights and set the direction for creating a truly amazing product. We have finally processed the results and are ready to share them with you with, as we promised.

Advanced physical verification solutions
POLYTEDA CLOUD develops breakthrough technology and PV toolset that are key for industrial competences that determine the competitiveness of the EDA market and each individual IC design team.
POLYTEDA CLOUD`s flagship tool - PowerDRC/LVS is an efficient and innovative cloud-ready tool for physical verification of integrated circuits covering principal DRC and LVS tasks both in single- and multi-CPU modes. The tool has been qualified for the variety of process nodes up to 40nm. It was many times tested and evaluated against main competitive tool showing steady performance benefit, which grows with increasing of layout design size and complexity. Lots of memory chips, microcontrollers, analog blocks and other IP were verified and proven in silicon with PowerDRC/LVS, thus the tool satisfies needs in PV of almost all tier1/tier2/tier2 semiconductor foundries.
POLYTEDA CLOUD develops cloud-ready PV-workflow based on the fastest and most accurate flat engine in the market with hierarchical and multi-CPU capabilities. POLYTEDA CLOUD introduces an innovative, new business model to the traditional EDA industry. PowerDRC/LVS addresses the complex “physical verification” stage of microchip design, critical before the actual manufacturing at the semiconductor foundry.
Physical verification (PV) of an integrated circuit design is a critical step that must be completed prior to handing off a design to the foundry for manufacturing. It is a task that demands both performance and accuracy. Performance is required in to order meet schedule requirements in a competitive marketplace where time-to-market is a key driver.
Accuracy is important to avoid re-spins, yield loss, or even outright failures in the finished chip. Chip designers are naturally concerned about trading off performance for accuracy or vice versa – both are important and cannot be sacrificed. A balance needs to be achieved between over- and under-checking the design.
Demonstrating the importance of physical verification tools, annual licensing revenue is approaching $500M per year. These tools are typically licensed for hosting and use within a customer’s computing and design environment. However, cloud-based physical verification is beginning to be adopted as a more cost effective solution for many segments of the market. Cloud-based physical verification is not only more cost effective but offers advantages in performance and accuracy that competing tools cannot deliver even at their higher price points.
POLYTEDA CLOUD LLC, an innovator in physical verification (PV) tools for the semiconductor industry, announced today the completion of qualification for its products – classical desktop tool PowerDRC/LVS and PVCLOUD, an advanced cloud-based physical verification solution for TowerJazz, the global specialty foundry leader. Now IC designers using TowerJazz’s 0.18nm platform have access to a fast, accurate and cloud-ready sign-off quality solution on a pay-per-use basis to dramatically reduce design cycle time and benefit from reduced costs and faster time to market.
POLYTEDA’s PowerDRC/LVS enables rapid verification of new designs to ensure accuracy prior to mask creation and manufacturing. It can process multiple design rules and design layers simultaneously. In addition to superior processing speed, PowerDRC/LVS can handle huge amounts of data — up to tens of billions of transistors.
The recent expansion of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) needing to produce IC designs to support high growth areas such as IoT has led to a new EDA requirement that is markedly different to the typical user of physical verification (PV) tools.
Beyond a shadow of a doubt the power of the cloud will dramatically boost productivity of EDA. The rat race of large enterprises with annual licenses costing typically 10,000 to 50,000 Euros is clearly not sustainable for a small IC designer that may do at most one or two tape-outs per year.
Nor can an SME afford buying and maintaining extra powerful hardware for the resource greedy verification stage. PolytEDA Cloud was founded in 2015 precisely to address this problem. With its headquarters and R&D located in Kiev, Ukraine, the startup has a strong focus on the EU market. The company approach implied for increase of PV affordability through moving PV to a cloud environment allowing for pay-per-use model.
A developer of cloud-ready physical verification workflows, Polyteda Cloud announced the completion of a joint qualification program for its PowerDRC/LVS core tool to be used with TowerJazz' TS18SL and TS18PM processes.
The company now has foundry-validated design rule check runsets for PowerDRC/LVS. The Design Rule Check (DRC) and Layout Versus Schematic (LVS) tool provides IC designers an access to a fast, accurate, and cloud-ready signoff solution that accelerates time to market and improves manufacturability of chips targeted for TowerJazz 180nm process technology.
“Integrated circuits designers currently need fast, accurate and affordable physical verification tools such as PowerDRC/LVS,” said Alexander Grudanov, Polyteda Cloud Chief Executive Officer. “Our team is committed to contributing to the EDA industry with qualitative advanced technologies certified by such semiconductor leaders as TowerJazz foundry.”
June 21, 2017 – Las Vegas, Nevada; and Kyiv, Ukraine – TekStart LLC, a leading provider of corporate capital to high-tech entrepreneurs, and POLYTEDA CLOUD LLC, established in 2015, a pioneer in cloud-ready physical verification tools for the semiconductor industry, are partnering to bring the power of innovation to the market through a joint relationship. The relationship will involve the sale, marketing and support of POLYTEDA CLOUD’s PVCLOUD cloud-based physical verification suite, including its support through TekStart’s extensive global, sales channel.
“We are extremely pleased to be in a position to take advantage of POLYTEDA CLOUD’s intimate knowledge of the challenges faced by our advanced SoC and Foundry customers. TekStart aimes at PVCLOUD disruption of the traditional EDA market,” said Howard Pakosh, Managing Partner, TekStart. “By officially recognizing this partnership, we are continuing to grow our capabilities and services giving our customers the tools necessary to develop next generation technologies.”
